Tank Air. Tank Air. Tank Air. All the hotties want Tank Air!! I have seen this brand all over my side of the internet the last five years. I would say their popularity has only gone up, and up, and up. Just look at the turn out at their NYC pop-up!
I must mention that Tik Tok’s influencing power is crazy. I believe it has helped surge the brand’s overall visibility on the internet. And, with increased popularity comes increased haters!
Well… Lol. It’s more so feedback about the cost of the items. So many comments of “$75 for polyester?”. Well, yes!
Despite the price tag people are still buying from Tank air. And by people, I specifically mean me…. Me. Me. Me. Six months ago I eventually caved and bought my first item. The classic – “Studio Tank” in the color “Milk”. Total cost for my order with shipping + taxes all that? $81!
About a week later it was delivered.

I completely love the branding. The clothing tag with a tin card? Way to make me feel special and loved. The font is striking as well – it gives me a 90’s vibe.

Well, take a look and admire it now because it’s never going to be the same after this

These are my thoughts 6 months in!
- Superb fit. It’s very flattering, it gives me support and lift. I am slim but I really don’t work out. So I tend to store more fat around my midsection, I don’t have an hourglass body – not complaining! It’s just nice that I can throw this on and go and I feel like I look more snatched.
- Material. Yes it’s mostly polyester but it has just the right thickness for that fitted effect without feeling like shape wear. It’s just a happy medium – not too thick, not too thin. Just know, if you are sensitive to cold, it’s not so thick that it will hide the shape of your nipples… Unless you want to serve some subtle nipple (me) then not an issue at all!
- I have also done so much with this shirt. It’s been through the wash many times and the shape is still maintained the seams are still holding up. Great for travel because it’s so versatile. I even used it for a last min yoga class and it was breathable.
- Sizing… I got the Studio Tank in an extra small. I’ve seen suggestions to size down to get a tighter fit if you want a more contoured look. My weight does fluctuate a bit depending on my cycle. So on days where I’m up in weight this shirt does tend to roll up since it is slightly cropped. With this in mind I think getting a small in this style would have been a better choice.

I was lucky enough to find the “System Tank” second hand for a great price online! It’s in the color “mist” ,a pale gray, and it’s in a size small. This style is a bit longer and has thicker straps. There is also more back coverage which is great if you have back acne/hyper pigmentation. I personally have back acne. So I like wearing this top because I can put my hair up without thinking about my back.
I actually like this top more than the “studio tank” style. I ultimately like having a bit more coverage and thicker straps. This makes it a great option if you have a larger chest and want to feel more secure. It also doesn’t roll up because it’s longer and the right size for me.
Will i buy more in the future?
Yes, yes, ultimately..Yes. I would love to try a style different from their core clothing line. Most of all I want to buy one of their limited release items in the future. I’ve seen some of their knitwear and it is beautiful. I’m currently obsessed with their ” Night Market Knit”.

I really want this top more than anything – it reminds me of a shirt my older sister had like 10 -15 years ago. I’ve been chasing a dupe for that shirt and this is the closest I found. What is this style shirt called anyway? … The price is pretty steep for me though so I have been holding off. Well I can tell you that I am inches away from purchasing it on a payment plan. I just know if I start that habit… I will probably end up in more debt from shopping than from my student loans. And, that’s actually an insane thing to type and admit at my grown age.
Is it worth the money?
…………… This is a question that requires you to look… At your situation and what you value in your purchases. If you are looking at it from one perspective. Like “it’s just a polyester tank top”.
Then no, it will never be “worth the money”. Which, ultimately, I get it! It is expensive, if you know there are many similar options at a lower price point, it’s natural to question the price.
I think the popularity of this product is due to the branding, the feeling of exclusivity and the story behind the company. Claire Robertson-Macleod started Tank Air, inspired by the women in her family and her culture. She is a young business woman who practices ethical labor and production of her products. I’ve read here, that she aims to limit as much waste as she can. I also love how meticulous she is in the production process. She pays attention to the small details, the fit, the material quality, and where she sources her fabric. Nowadays, we see clothing turned out at lightning speed without care. So, her company is really refreshing to me.
Also, if you take a look at the product photos and the campaign releases (check this out), you will see a variety of body types represented. The models look effortlessly confident, captivating, with a air of mystique. I think they just did an amazing job with the creative direction.
I should mention that it has a sense of exclusivity. With smaller restocks, the costs of the garment, and it’s popularity among celebrity/influencers. It’s a bit harder to get your hands on it. It’s just very satisfying once you have it!
I think people want to feel good about their purchases. Tank Air represents the growing interest in supporting founders with genuine intent who practice ethical production. Buyers can resonate with the story and ultimately want to see more brands like this, succeed. It’s rare nowadays. I mean… People are buying designer clothing that doesn’t last for for the price. Also, you can find soooo many tank tops around the same price. Like, on Revolve, or something. I’m just defensive because I think out of all the pricey tank top companies out right now… Tank Air should be less of our concern.
Well everyone… What do you think now? What are your thoughts on Tank Air?
Are you going to buy anything? What influences you when you are thinking about buying an everyday item at a higher price?
Thanks for stopping by~
